Obituary

Mattie Early Hughes, 85 of Milton, Florida, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Jonesboro Assisted Living Facility in Jonesboro, Georgia.

Mattie was a retired, longtime resident of Milton, Florida. She loved her family, traveling, reading, and watching Hallmark movies.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arlie P. Hughes; parents, Zeno and Willie Mae Early; daughter, Nancy Rhys; sisters, Mary Charles Lay and Thelma Hughes.

Mattie is survived by her sisters, Clara Boyer, Eloise Shirley and husband Joe; brother, Zeno “Buck” Early, Jr. and wife Wilma; sons, George Rhys of the Philippines, Steve Reece and wife Terri, of Stockbridge, Georgia; daughter, Jaye Reece and partner Gary Fisher of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Mann and husband Jason, Edmond Wilowski, Bryan Reece and wife Jamie, Savannah Reece, Scarlett Reece; great-grandchildren, Cymberly, Olivia, Peyton, Blakley, and Beckett; a host of beloved nieces and nephews; and step-children, Tim Hughes and wife Monica, and Cynthia Hughes, and their families.

Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2019, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2019, in the Bamberg Chapel, First Baptist Church of Milton, with Dr. David Spencer officiating.

Burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to Southern Grace Hospice for their incredible, compassionate care of Mattie during her time of illness. They also wish to express their thanks to the Palms at Lake Spivey for their hospitality and care for Mattie.
