Colonel Jon L. Krenkel, USAF (Ret.), 64, of Navarre, Florida, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019.

Jon was a native of Old Bridge, New Jersey, the second of five children born to the late John and Mary Jane Krenkel. Jon received his BS in Physics from Trenton State College in New Jersey; and received his Masters degree from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas. His professional military education included Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, Armed Forces Staff College, and Air War College.

Jon began his 26 year Air Force career as a B-52 Radar Navigator, and subsequently as a B-52 Instructor Navigator, Training Flight Instructor, and Senior Standardization and Evaluation Radar Navigator. Throughout his illustrious Air Force career, Jon held numerous positions including serving on the Chief of Strategy and Policy Division, and was Chief of the Operations Inspections Branch on the Inspector General Team. Jon later assumed command of the 436th Training Squadron, 7th Bomb Wing, and went on to become the Deputy Commander of the 7th Support Group. Upon being stationed at Hurlburt Field, Florida, he was assigned to the Air Force Command and Control, Training, and Innovation Group, where he served as Commander. During his 26 years in the Air Force, he also had the honor of serving as a Presidential Advance Agent for Air Force One under President George H. W. Bush. Jon retired from the Air Force in 2004.

Jon enjoyed many sports, though none as much as playing golf, winning multiple tournaments throughout his life. He held a lifelong love for the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Jon also liked to read, and loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Jane Ann Krenkel and Laura Ellen Krenkel.

Jon is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carole; his son, Adam, and his wife Tara, of Navarre; daughter, Bethany, and her husband Drew, of Gulf Breeze; sister, Kathy, and her husband Bob, of Old Bridge, New Jersey; brother, Larry, and his wife Lisa, of Milford, Pennsylvania. He was also the proud “Papa” to his grandsons, Cameron and Mason Krenkel.

Visitation with the family will be held 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2019, at Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel (7794 Navarre Pkwy, Navarre, Florida 32566.)

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019, at St. Sylvester Catholic Church (6464 Gulf Breeze Pkwy, Gulf Breeze, Florida 32563) with Military Honors.

A private interment will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, onboard Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida.

Carole, Adam, and Bethany request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jon’s favorite charity, Wounded Warrior Project.
