Glenna Faye Bates Barrett

Glenna was #12 of the large family of Samuel J. Bates and Pollie Webb Bates. Being the youngest, she was always the “baby!”
Glenna was a Class of 1957 graduate from Whitesburg High School, Whitesburg, Kentucky.
On April 2, 1960, Glenna and Sewell T. Barett were united as one in marriage. On February 14, 1964, Glenna graduated from nursing school. On April 24, 1964, God answered their prayers for a much wanted child they would dedicate to His service.
At age 14, Glenna accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord, and was baptized on that very day - August 1, 1954. She has always taught Sunday School serving her Lord. For 14 years she served as 9th Grade Youth Director, having anywhere from 75 – 150 youth at Dalraida Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama.
They joined a group from Dalraida planting a new church, Gateway Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama. She served as their first Sunday School director.
S.T., her beloved husband, transferred to the V.A. Clinic, Pensacola, Florida, and they moved to Milton, Florida. They became members of Pine Terrace Baptist Church in 1987. Glenna started teaching at Pine Terrace in January 1988. She retired August 1, 2015, teaching for a total of 61 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Pollie Bates; three brothers, Lucian Bates, Raleigh Bates and Robert Bates; three sisters, Virginia Bates, Mildred Caudill and Kathryn Johnson; and
three other baby sisters, Elsie, Ruby and Doris.
Glenna is survived by her beloved husband, Sewell “S.T.” Barrett, and they have a special Angel daughter, Renee, of Milton, Florida. Glenna has a special puppy, Sir Bear Barrett. Glenna is also survived by one brother, Herbert W. Bates of Lakeland, Florida; and one sister, Sybil M. Bates of Fernandina, Florida; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Glenna’s message for you today: “One request that I have is that you give your heart and life to Jesus and meet me in heaven for our great reunion day. Our family circle must not be broken and my prayer is for you to be there with me.”
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2019, at Pine Terrace Baptist Church. Burial will follow services in Milton Cemetery, Milton, Florida.
Visitation will be held 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., prior to the service.
Lewis Funeral Home of Milton has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family requests memorial donations may be made in Glenna’s name to Samaritan’s Purse or to Gideons International.
