Obituary

Doris Mae Arnold, 84, of Shalimar, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday evening, November 14, 2019, surrounded by her loving sons.

Doris was born June 20, 1935, in Danville, Virginia, to James and Bessie Chilton. Doris married the love of her life, Douglas Lewis Arnold, on June 7, 1952. Douglas served his country in the Air Force from 1953 to 1974, and Civil Service from 1976 to 1996. Doris travelled the world with her husband and their four sons: Michael, Victor, Richard and Gary. Doris lived in Germany, Japan, Alaska, Midway Island and numerous states. She came to Fort Walton Beach in 1968; and her family settled in Shalimar, Florida, in 1974.

Doris worked from 1974 to 1996 as a Choctawhatchee high school lunchroom associate. Doris was active in her community and loved social events. She loved cooking; taking care of her four sons and lifelong husband of 66 years, and spoiling her dog, Brandon. She was a caring and devoted wife and loving mother to her four boys.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, who passed away November 15, 2018; her mother and father; six brothers, Clarence, Talmage, Clyde, Ted, Glenn and Thad; two sisters, Edna and Margaret; son, Michael; grandson, Christopher; and her great-granddaughter, Ava.

Doris leaves behind her brother, Robert; sons, Victor (Chris) of Hilliard Ohio, Richard and Gary (Brenda) of Fort Walton Beach; grandchildren, Lee (Jessie) of Worthington, Ohio, Beth Ann of Hilliard, Ohio, and Jarrett (Ashton) of Atlanta, Georgia; step-granddaughter, Julia Alfonso; great-granddaughters; Lydia and Blakely.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hawthorn House and Emerald Coast Hospice for the love and care given to Doris and her family during her illness.
