Obituary

Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Harksen
May 26, 1960 – August 25, 2019

Mrs. Harksen passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019 in her sleep at her home in Navarre, Florida. Debbie was born in Lubbock, Texas on May 26, 1960, and was raised in Greenville, Texas. Debbie was the oldest child of the Stephens family. She was a beloved daughter of Michael Levoyd Stephens, Sr. and Doris Green Stephens, and a caring sister to Alisa Stephens Coker and Michael Levoyd Stephens, II.

She graduated from Greenville High School in 1978, where she was a proud member and officer of the Flaming Flashes drill team. Debbie worked at E-Systems/Raytheon in Greenville, Texas, from 1982 until her retirement in 1992, where she met husband Steven Louis Harksen. She attended Texas A&M Commerce where she was a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the international counseling honor society, and earned her BS in 1993 and MS in 1995, both in Counseling. Debbie became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 1995 and kept her license active.

Debbie and Steve were married on June 27, 1992, and had a daughter, Lauren Elaine Harksen on April 8, 1997. Debbie loved the art of dance and encouraged Lauren to pursue dance, too. Debbie adored her family and never forgot to express her love to them. She loved Jesus and was a member of Liberty Church in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Debbie, was also survived by a daughter of a previous ,arriage, Brandi Niccole Auston and 3 grandsons, Liam, Levi, and Luke Austin of Dallas, Texas.

We will remember Debbie for her expressive passion, caring spirit, silly humor, undeniable beauty, and unquestionable love. We will miss her dearly, but she will always be remembered in the hearts of all who loved her. Debbie will be buried in Walcott, Iowa, in the Harksen family grounds.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2019 at Liberty Church in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Memorial services will also be held in Madison, Alabama; Greenville, Texas; and a graveside service in Walcott, Iowa on dates to be announced. Memorial donations may be made in Debbie’s name to The Humane Society of the United States.

Lewis Funeral Home of Navarre has been entrusted with arrangements.
